On Independent Decision Making

There is a long standing tradition (by long standing, I mean only seven years) of the Teddy Roosevelt mascot losing the President's Race at every home Nationals game.I'm ignorant of the joke behind the decision to keep Teddy in last place. I would love to find out how the discussion went that cemented Teddy's perpetual underdog status.Watching the race yesterday, I realized that the human in the costume could turn the tradition over by just ignoring whoever orders the loss, and taking the matter into his or her own hands.I'm calling on you, costume-wearer. Just win the damn race. You will probably be fired, but you'll also be eternalized as the rogue who gave a fine President his due success.Photo by Scott Ableman
