Responding to Extremists
In an editorial for the Washington Post opinion pages today, Ahmed Salah writes:
"The events of Sept. 11, 2012, began with extremists in the West - not in the Middle East. Last week's attacks were carried out by people enraged at a film that insults the prophet Muhammad."
I would like to invite Mr. Salah to tune into Comedy Central on any given day and watch a few episodes of South Park, in which Americans make extremely cruel jokes about themselves, far beyond whatever 'insults' the Prophet Muhammad may have suffered in this 'enraging' film. And yet, every day after the show airs, life in our country continues without civil unrest.Americans are capable of making lewd criticisms of our own culture without resorting to violence, and I suggest that the extremists of the Middle East should learn how to do the same.[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSQczYEeB2w]
